About this map
3,922 live campuses are drawn here, plus the ones that were withdrawn or rejected, which stay on the map because a proposal that was refused is part of a county's record.
A cluster shows the mix of what is inside it, so a ring that is mostly one colour tells you what a region is made of before you zoom in. Below the cluster zoom every campus is its own mark: filled for the stages that exist on the ground, hollow for the ones that are still paper, dashed for the ones that are over. Colour and fill both carry the status, so the map still reads in greyscale and for a colourblind reader.
Some records name a county and nothing finer. There is no point to draw for those and we do not invent one, so they have no pin here. They are counted, with the reason, on each county page.
